In coordination with the Virginia Department of Education, Mecklenburg County Public Schools has determined that our students and staff are not required to make up the days missed due to inclement weather. In an effort to remedy the issue of extending the school for inclement weather, we have had significant interaction with the Virginia Department of Education about state regulations regarding instructional time requirements for the academic year. In addition, the Governor identified several of the snow-storms that impacted us as “state of emergency” with forgiveness of time missed in school. Therefore, students will not be required to attend a make-up day on Monday, May 21st, nor will the school day be extended between now and the end of the year. Effective Wednesday, March 21, 2018, we will return to our regular bell schedule at all schools. There is always much to consider when making these difficult decisions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you for your continued patience throughout this process.
