Highlights

Mrs. Kimberly Martin and Mrs. Pauline Stokes with the Virginia Cooperative Extension presented Mr. Nichols, Superintendent and Crystal Crutchfield, Food Services Supervisor, with banners for the new “Eat Smart, Move More” campaign. The campaign is part of the Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Family Nutrition Program, whose mission is to help low-income families make healthy food choices on a limited budget and to promote healthy, active lifestyles. The banners will be distributed to each of the elementary schools within Mecklenburg County.  One of the goals of the campaign is to show children and their families that eating healthy food, such as fruits and vegetables, and being active leads to good health choices and behaviors. It also helps athletes achieve their goals on the playing field. Mecklenburg County Public Schools is 1 of 15 school divisions in the state to be awarded a grant from the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth.
