Mecklenburg County High School’s Commencement Ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 9:00 A.M. in the MCHS gymnasium.

Each senior will receive six (6) tickets to graduation. Graduation tickets will be issued to the seniors on Friday, June 16, during the mandatory senior graduation practice. Each senior will be required to wear his or her cap, tassel, gown, and only stoles or cords issued by Mecklenburg County High School or Southside Virginia Community College Administration and Faculty. Boys will wear dark slacks (no jeans), white shirt, dark tie, and dark dress shoes (no tennis shoes, crocs, etc.). Girls will wear a dress, dress pants (no jeans) with a blouse or a skirt and blouse with dark dress shoes (no tennis shoes, crocs, etc.). Dresses should have a neckline which cannot be seen above the collar of the robe. The dress or skirt should not fall below the bottom of the graduation gown.

Graduating seniors will enter the MCHS campus via the Highway 58 entrance only. The Wooden Bridge Road entrance will be closed. Seniors should display their cap on their car dashboard to identify themselves as graduates for parking staff. Parking staff will direct graduate traffic to park in the middle school parking lot on the western (left) side of the building. All individuals, including graduating seniors and guests, are encouraged to carpool as there are a limited number of parking spaces available on campus. Graduating seniors should enter the building via the main entrance/front doors of the high school and arrive no later than 7:00 A.M. Guests to the 2023 Commencement Ceremony will enter the campus via the Highway 58 entrance only. The Wooden Bridge Road entrance will be closed.

Guests will be directed to park in the high school faculty and student parking lots on the eastern (right) side of the building. Guests will enter the building via the cafeteria doors (rear of the building) starting at 7:30 A.M. Handicap parking will be available in the bus parking lot near the cafeteria entrance. No one will be allowed to enter after 9:00 A.M. Each individual attending the graduation ceremony will need a ticket to enter. All individuals, including graduating seniors and guests, are encouraged to carpool as there are a limited number of parking spaces available on campus.

In light of recent events at a Richmond area high school graduation, MCHS will take certain measures to ensure our graduation is safe as well as successful.
Metal detectors will be utilized at this event; all guests will walk through metal detectors when entering the building. No bags will be allowed, including, but not limited to purses, diaper bags, bookbags, camera bags, satchels, fanny packs, and drawstring bags. Additionally, no tobacco, vapes, e-cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, or weapons are allowed on campus.

Please allow adequate time for traffic, parking, and security measures as you enter the building as no one will be allowed to enter after 9:00 A.M. All ticketed
attendees must remain inside the school upon being admitted; should a guest leave, there will be no re-admittance. Guests are asked to refrain from bringing flowers, balloons, noisemakers, or large signs into the gymnasium, and are asked to remain seated for the entire ceremony.

The ceremony will be live-streamed via the MCPS YouTube channel for those who are unable to attend graduation at MCHS. There will be no overflow seating available.
