MCPS launches program to deter student use of drugs
Student health and safety are of great concern to all; we don’t want to lose any students. Drug use is taking a toll on lives across our county, our state, our region, and our country. Mecklenburg County seeks to discourage student drug use through education and through our policies and practices. Because of the many dangers posed by drugs to students, all MCPS secondary school students who are in clubs or school organizations, who play sports, or who participate in any other extracurricular activity are now required to sign the student pledge. By signing, the student pledges to avoid using drugs and to submit to our random drug testing program.
In the next weeks, our two middle and two high schools will hold information meetings for parents and students to share more about this program. Please look for that communication from your student’s school and plan to attend the meeting. We ask parents to talk with their students about the dangers of drugs and help their students make life saving choices.
The full policy and pledge form are available below, as is a letter from the superintendent.
