I have worked at Southside Virginia Community College since 1991 where I am currently an Associate Professor of Mathematics on the Christanna Campus in Alberta, Virginia. I have lived in Mecklenburg County since 1996 and I reside in the Palmer Springs area with my wife Kimberly and our three children, Luke, Rachel and Libby who all attend Mecklenburg County Public Schools. I was elected to represent the first district of Mecklenburg County in November 2015.

Gloria Smith received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in English from St. Paul’s College and her Master of Education Degree from Longwood University in Educational Administration and Supervision. She is a retired administrator and teacher with 35 years of experience in Mecklenburg County Public Schools and 3 years in the Pittsylvania County Public School System. She was married to the late Kenneth Smith, a life-long educator who retired as Director of Federal Projects for Mecklenburg County Public Schools. They have two children, Angela, who received her Master of Education in Marine Biology from William and Mary and lives in Seattle, WA., and Ronnie, a veteran of the U.S. Army who studied Business Administration at American International University, and lives in Boydton. Both are graduates of our Mecklenburg County Public School System. Gloria is a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Chase City, VA.

Wanda is the wife of Dr. Paul Bailey and the mother of 6 children who have or are being served by Mecklenburg County Public Schools. She graduated from Averett College in 1984 with a major in Biology/Chemistry and minor in Mathematics. Wanda has worked in the pharmaceutical industry with Fisons Pharmaceuticals and Glaxo Pharmaceuticals as a sales representative. She is a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Blackridge, VA. Wanda enjoys music, exercise, and spending time with her new granddaughter. She currently serves the MCPS Board on the Finance, Instruction, and Athletics Committees.

Lindell Palmer received his Master of Education degree in 1977 from Virginia State University in Educational Administration and Supervision. He is a retired Administrator with 39 years of experience with the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and 4 years of experience with the North Carolina Public School System. Lindell lives in South Hill with his wife Earlene H. Palmer. They have 2 sons; Lindell Jr., who teaches AP English & Creative Writing as well as manages multiple Color Guard Teams in Northern Virginia and Michael Palmer, an Attorney, who works for the VA Dept of Taxation in Richmond, VA. Both sons graduated from Park View High School. Lindell is a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Oaksville, NC.

Gavin L. Honeycutt is a lifelong resident of South Hill, Mecklenburg County and a 1989 graduate of Park View Senior High School. After some years in the food and clothing industry Gavin came back home in 1997 and opened what is now Gavin’s House of Flowers and Gifts a retail florist and gift shop. He is very active in many organizations in the community and active in C.A.T.S. with the Colonial Centre in South Hill. Gavin is a active member of the Mecklenburg Educational Partnership Board and takes great pride in the educational system in Mecklenburg County helping to make sure that all of our schools are set up with the tools it needs to be a success. This is why I decided to run for 5th District for Mecklenburg County Schools. I am looking forward to being a part of a team that helps to lead our school system to the next level of excellence.

Rob Campbell is a 1994 graduate of Campbell University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He has been employed by Virginia State Police for over 20 years and has held different leadership and educator roles in that organization. Rob currently lives in the South Hill area with his wife of 18 years, Janine A. Campbell, and their two children who are currently attending MCPS. He is a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He is active with the local 4H Livestock Club where his children are members.

Mrs. Garner has lived in Mecklenburg her entire life and graduated from Park View in 1966. From high school, she attended Ferrum Junior College and then Longwood, graduating with a B.S. in Home Economics. Her teaching career began at Bluestone Junior High School in Physical Science and Earth Science after getting a minor in Science. She received her Masters Degree in Education Administration and Supervision. After teaching 40 years, she retired and ran for the School Board. Both her children are graduates of Bluestone High School. She now has a granddaughter at Chase City Elementary.

Mr. Allgood attended Mecklenburg County Schools graduating from Bluestone High School in 1972. He attended Elon University and graduated in 1976 with a bachelors degree in music education. He was the band director at Bluestone Middle and Bluestone High School for 42 years. Mr. Allgood is married to Jane Allgood and has three children and three grandchildren.
