Effective July 1, 2019, the Code of Virginia provides that school divisions that have been granted a waiver in the past to open prior to Labor Day must now follow specific guidelines regarding the Labor Day holiday. In accordance with those guidelines, Mecklenburg County Public Schools “may begin school earlier than 14 days before Labor Day, but must close the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day through Labor Day.” Based on these guidelines, the MCPS School Board approved the revised 2019-2020 MCPS School Calendar with the following changes:
1. August 30, 2019 will be a holiday with the school division closed through Labor Day, September 2nd.
2. October 14, 2019 will be a full instructional day for all students, eliminating the Teacher Work Day previously scheduled.
